ECC was made aware of a local college that uses rats, mice and other animals in one of its teaching programs. At the end of the semester, the animals who aren't adopted by students or others are killed. We accepted twelve young, healthy female white rats into our placement program to spare them the certain death promised them after being "used". The pictures were taken as they arrived to their temporary foster home! Rats are incredibly intelligent, curious creatures who can make wonderful companion animals. Many of the twelve female rats are friendly and socialized, others are a little more shy and could use a bit more socialization. All of them are sweet and non-aggressive. If you are interested in adopting one or more of these little ladies, please get in touch! Note: The domestic rats, mice, hamsters and other rodents available for adoption from Empty Cages Collective have been rescued from abandonment, neglect, abuse and other forms of cruelty. Some of them have been exploited in animal experimentation, while others have been neglected and abandoned by irresponsible guardians. We want to ensure that mistreatment is a thing of the past for these little beings. With that in mind, we are seeking serious, responsible adopters committed to the humane treatment of animals. Adoption requires an approved adoption application and a reasonable adoption donation so that we can continue our important work of rescuing and protecting rodents, and other animals.
