This is an antique original Art Deco era fireplace mantle. Although not exactly a classic Art Deco piece this does share that period and design concepts in several ways including the incorporation of a built in Emerson AM Tube Radio. It is a very ornate and decorative faux fireplace mantel. It sports more of a tall and petite footprint than most other fireplaces of that period one usually sees. Its very ornate details give off an almost English or Victorian feel or style. This may fit where other size larger mantels are just too wide.
It is ornamented with floral swirls and carved patterns adorn the top curved mantel edges. This reeks of champagne parties and music. A very unique piece that could fetch big dollars by interior decorators or designers should it be properly restored or repaired. It appears it has had some minor paint touch-up or colorization over the years mostly on the side panels but the original design and painted gold and yellow-gray-black tones are much visible and appear to be in original condition.
Age has taken it's toll on this and some of the nailed or glued on patterns and appliques are beginning to dry out, shrink then fall off in places. There is also some major dryness and splintering of the facial veneer on the lower right column foot as pictured. It is quite unique and would add character to many types of decors. The radio is in dis-repair also and is missing the speaker cone and speaker grill cloth. The brown bakelite knobs remain on the classic Emerson radio which I assume would also need restoration in order to operate. There is a speaker cut-out above the hearth area for a downward firing speaker that has been removed and the opening remains. The hearth are has a hole drilled out to run AC wiring for a faux fire log set (not included).
Dimensions are: 48" Tall x 49 3/4" Wide x 11 1/2" Deep. Approx weight is 85-90 pounds.
The hearth area for the faux firelogs is approx 9 3/4" in depth to the front face area.
This is offered "as-is".
